“Eles & Eu” – Roberto Taufic SOLO concert

After many years of experience in the musical context, guitarist and composer Roberto Taufic releases his first solo guitar CD, “Eles & Eu”, that is “Them & I”: fifteen interpretations of various authors –“Eles”– and twelve original compositions –“Eu”- played by six magic strings disclosing a great artistic maturity, fluid combination of sound, arrangement, technique and improvisation.

With a rhythmic and playful style as well as lyrical and tinged with saudade, “Eles & Eu” translates Roberto’s emotional labyrinth and carries it direct to the auditory labyrinth of the listener. From the original tracks to the Brazilian standards by Guinga, Chico Buarque, Edu Lobo and Tom Jobim; from the jazz of Monk and Metheny to Chopin’s Nocturne, the warm and delicate timbre of Roberto’s guitar goes straight to the heart of emotion, without ever loosing sight of the intimate communication between the audience and the musician.

“A rare guitarist, totally possessed by art; he plays the “music of notes”, he communicates with the invisible; in a deeply moving event in which everything depends on the guitar as the interpreter of words that would seem impossible to be uttered by an instrument. Thank you Roberto, music thanks you!” (Guinga)

“Roberto is a complete musician. He has impeccable technique for the essence of music, an intense harmonic acquaintance and an incredible sense of rhythm.  Actually, where rhythm is concerned, it has to be emphasized that Roberto comes from the northeast of Brazil and has profoundly assimilated all the rhythm elements of that region, like the samba-de-côco, the baião, the xote, the frevo and the maracatu. This custom has been transformed into a great musical bag that gives place to his expression and character. Now Roberto surprises us with an extremely high quality new project. He has opted to express himself in the more transparent form – guitar only – and has chosen a balanced repertoire of the finest caliber. Besides this, he introduces his musical thoughts through original compositions and personal arrangements and explores, in a special way, the orchestral aspects of his instrument. “The guitar is a small orchestra”, once quoted by a great French composer. Here the guitar alone succeeds to represent the more popular methods between the numerous combinations. A whole orchestra exists in the guitar and through this it is possible to grasp every timbre shading and every harmonic moment. This is the new project by Roberto: clean, transparent and with extremely good taste. I am very happy, honoured and emotional to be collaborating in the release of this high level CD.  Good luck Roberto!” (Marco Pereira)

“Roberto Taufic is one of the nicest surprises that can happen when you think you have already seen and heard it all. I was impressed while listening to this incredible musician, that I haven’t personally met yet but that I must see to find out if what I listened to was for real. After I listened to his Cd “Eles”, I had to write him in order to ask, “But did you do that recording of Upa Neguinho in more than one take or not?” With the simplicity that is typical only of the greats, he responded that it had been done in one single take, and that the Cd had been recorded in two days! I feel sorry for Robert, because he has nothing else to learn about his instrument, while I have the advantage of being able to live through three more reincarnations studying to try to come close to my “XARÁ” (Portuguese, one who shares the same name).” (Roberto Menescal)

“I loved the CD and I loved your playing when we were together in Germany. Your singing is great, too, it’s an integral part of your playing.  You have a great touch and a beautiful sense of rythm and of course you are very lyrical without neglecting your technique. So, you are a complete musician, a complete composer and arranger and on the whole you have a very, very bright future! I can’t wait to hear you again and see how you will have progressed.” (L. Coryell)

”Your recording is excellent and your sound is beautiful. I am very, very impressed. Congratulations Roberto! An incredible piece of work. (Robert Godin)

“Duo Taufic” – Roberto Taufic & Eduardo Taufic

The Duo Taufic is the result of the union of two experienced musicians, Roberto and Eduardo Taufic celebrating a more than familiar partnership. The versatility and the peculiar sound of the Duo reveals the musical knowledge acquired over the years and the immense creative content provided by the dialogue between the guitar and the piano. Descendants of Arabians, the two Taufic brothers awakened a love of music since childhood, always encouraged by their parents and family. The first original work of the Duo was recorded on the album “Bate Rebate” also released in special edition in Japan. Their careers took geographically different paths, promoting the absorption of such a diverse as rich sonority, showing a perfect harmony in a pleasant Music chat between the two musicians. The “Bate Rebate” Duet is a work full of spontaneity and improvisation, Brazilianness and lyricism, rhythms and colors, limpid melodies that are amplified in the soul of those who listen to it. The two brothers show all their musical excellence in the beautiful and sophisticated sound where the thread of the work is the respect and affection for universal music without limits, without labels and without missing the strong cultural influence of northeastern Brazil. The second album of the duo, called “Todas as Cores” is a layered work on emotion and virtuosity, sensitivity and commitment to good music that, as the title suggests, expresses the different possibilities of rhythm combinations, sounds and influences. Even more engaging, the new album brings a booklet with comments, track by track, by the giant of Brazilian music Egberto Gismonti. D’Anima, the last project is completely inspired by the power of music to constantly change the world into an even better place, spiritually and humanly evolved where the energy and the power of music break the limits of the sound to touch the soul of the ones who listen to It. Thus D’Anima arose, which in Italian means “from the soul”. Once again the Duo Taufic impresses the listener with new compositions always focusing on strong melodies and ingrained on the special sound of the Duo, masterfully orchestrating the piano and the guitar in the service of a common space, a full harmony and a clear and true sounding. “D’Anima” was recorded in Italy in 2017, It features thirteen songs, eleven authorial and 2 reinterpretations: “O Último Pau De Arara” by Corumbá and Venâncio, and “Lôro” by Egberto Gismonti, who is also honored with the track that names the album: “D’Anima”. A very special fact is that the new album celebrates ten years of the DUO, and It brings on the cover and in the album sleeves a beautiful painting made by their Father (Taufic José Hasbun Yacaman) abstractly illustrating the keys of the piano and the guitar neck, thus completing a true family work of art. The Duo Taufic was born in mid-2008, where the two brothers met for the first time on the same stage to play only with each other, marking the beginning of this musical partnership.

“It’s great to hear well played music, from ones who know how to do It! Do not stop ever!” … (Ivan Lins)

“The Duo Taufic is totally affectionate, friendly, loving, overflowing good feelings with great music played by the Taufic Brothers who seem to be 1 in 2 or 2 on 1 … The tone they manage in unison is beautiful, orchestral! The music gushes like abundant source, countless points of spring, fresh water, clear, harmonious and affectionate. It seems to represent a love that worked out, which has no rivalry or doubt. It is supportive, righteous and accomplice. The Duo Taufic´s music is beautiful, better than words is hearing it so many times until the heart soften and cry a lot. Phew, amazing!” … (Egberto Gismonti )

“Two brothers as rarely seen. They show us just how much they love each other through their chords, melodies, silences, gestures, tears, laughter and musical guffaws. And they converse in such a beautiful way, with a crystal clear love that flows from heart to heart without interference or filters. The voice of their instruments is natural, necessary and clear: sound that beats, sound that responds, resonates and resonates again in the soul of the listener. This is good music, made with lots of love, talent, attention, rigor and spontaneity.” (André Mehmari)

“If there is a favorite combination of instruments in the world it is piano and guitar. From my first discovery of Bill Evans and Jim Hall to my introduction to Cesar Camargo Mariano and Helio Delmiro and more recently his collaborations with Romero Lubambo, to the lovely moments of Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays and then I was lucky enough to make my first recording ever with Pat Martino in a duet format. So my appreciation is on high alert when these instruments join together and Roberto and Eduardo do great justice to this great jazz and brazilian tradition. Their work is a very thoughtful and musical collaboration and the added colors of Andre Mehmari’s accordion and Luciana Alves are sparkling contributions to a beautiful musical portrait of two brothers.” (Gil Goldstein)

“Brothers Roberto and Eduardo, twins in music, are simply genius. Only twins can play, breathe, transpire and play with such a range of dynamics as they are capable of doing in their concerts. It’s an honor for the entire Brazilian music world to see that Brazil produces such amazingly talented musicians. I hereby declare myself a complete fan of these accomplished twins in both in their musicality and sensibility.” (Roberto Menescal)

Roberto Taufic/Gabriele Mirabassi DUO

In the case of this duo, the emotion is a red thread that accompanies and crosses the music of two great virtuosos through the histrionic notes of the clarinet and the embroideries interwoven by the guitar.

Gabriele Mirabassi and Roberto Taufic know how to stir with boldness through original themes and very famous passages, among suggestions coming from different musical worlds that meet each others in the impassioned interpretation, in the complete adhesion of the music to the emotion. Instrumental music to the search of the voice, of the secret that turns inactive  subject (woods and metals) into song, but also in cry, whisper, hiccup, laughed.

Musicians who have been united by runs that cross the jazz and the classical music, the winding rhythmics of the Brazilian music and the music of author. Soloists, interpreters, composers that give life to a formed repertoire in prevalence from original compositions and that put their virtuosity and energy of the improvising music to a disposition for the search of a new rhythmic dimension of the piece.

Jogo de Cordas – Roberto Taufic/Luigi Tessarollo DUO

Luigi Tessarollo

” The guitar is an instrument which was born before the piano, this we must admit. If only for this reason, pianists must show respect to the guitar Masters. This is why I am wearing a hat. Only so that I can later prosaically take it off before Tessarollo and Taufic who in this record are united in creating good music, rather than being in conflict. The exact opposite of what many jazz musicians did in the past, often playing together for the taste of discovering which of the two was to outclass the other. Incredible, then…especially for those who know the enormous ego which generally accompanies the guitarist’s figure…! Might Tessarollo and Taufic thus be inaugurating a tradition? Honestly, let’s hope not: it is hard to repeat an accomplishment of this kind if one does not have the sensitivity and desire to question oneself of the two that you are about to listen to.” (Stefano Bollani)

The concert is the live performance of the CD: “Jogo  de cordas” issued in May 2006 by the label Velut Luna.” The duo has been invited at the Olimpic Winter Games 2006 to perform on the biggest musical stage in Europe , the Medals Plaza, on behalf of the jazz music in Italy and Torino.

This project allows you to know the artists in a new and original way. They present a repertoire that merges and supplements their different  stylistic connotations worked out in different but like minded artistical experience. Their mutual interest for brasilian and jazz music, fo the mediterranean melodies and unusual rhythms, permitted this union and the accomplishment of a repertoire in which the choice and the performance of the pieces lets stand out their different expressive personalities from the compositional point of view as well as arranging and improvisation. The sound of the duo is based  on the contrasts of the instruments they use, with the combination of sonorities both acoustic and electric. The music they play has mediterranean, jazz and latin connotations and shows originals pieces composed for two guitars by Tessarollo and Taufic, plus some arrangements of melodies by well known composers (Gerswhin, Lobo, Parker, Diaz …)

New Cd “PAINTING WITH STRINGS” (LUTE-2012)

“The new cd by Luigi Tessarollo and Roberto Taufic is simply beautiful. full of great tunes and interplay… a real treat for the ears.”

(John Abercombrie – New York)
